Beyond 21 runs Monday to Friday weekly. We provide programming in all areas of life including kitchen skills, home skills, life skills, social skills, recreation/leisure skills, and creative expression.
At Beyond 21, we use a Person-Centered approach (person-centered Practices – Helen Sanderson Associates). Our innovative programming strategies assist each participant to develop skills that enable them to reach their unique goals.
An important aspect of Beyond 21 is to create an environment where meaningful friendships can grow and flourish beyond the walls of 1924 Pitt St.
Full Days: 9:00AM – 3:00PM
Half Days: 9:0AM – 12:30PM or 11:30AM – 3:00PM
Household skills include any basic skill that is part of day-to-day life. This will include both kitchen/cooking skills and independent living skills. Some of the skills taught include lunch preparation, menu planning, grocery shopping. The goal is to assist our participants to work towards increasing independence.
Recreation / Leisure:
Each day will include a recreation/social time with an opportunity for participants to engage in a variety of recreation experiences. This is also a time to identify common interests and build peer relationships.
Our community programming is centered on community and peer engagement. This includes social skills, creative expression, community-based independent living skills, and system navigation (like practicing with local transit systems). The goal is to assist our participants to be connected to peers, engaging more fully with their community, and having a sense of belonging.
Functional Academics – This includes money management, banking, computer skills, measurement, reading & writing, artistic expression, awareness of current events, among other skills.
Gross and fine motor activities can include drumming, yoga, knitting, working with clay , art and dancing, to name a few.
Employment skills – Work etiquette, filling out applications, being a responsible employee, etc.
