Program
Beyond 21 runs Monday to Friday weekly. We provide programming in all areas of life including: kitchen skills, home skills, life skills, social skills, recreation/leisure skills, and creative expression.
All Beyond 21 staff are trained in Person Centred Thinking (Helen Sanderson Associates). Beyond 21 utilizes Person Centred profiles, tools, and templates to outline goals and objectives that are unique and relevant for each individual participant. During our program year we work with each participant to meet his or her unique goals and needs through our programming.
Beyond 21 has intake all year. We do not have a waiting list and do not require individuals to attend a minimum or maximum number of days per week. We focus on what the individual needs to fit their life and meet their personal goals.
We currently offer two programs:
Program Area ONE: Life Connections Program
Full Days: 9:00AM – 3:00PM
Half Days: 9:0AM – 12:30PM or 11:30AM – 3:00PM
The Life Connections program encompasses all program areas and includes:
Recreation / Leisure:
Each day will include a recreation / social time with opportunity for participants to engage in a variety of community based recreation experiences. This is also a time to identify common interests and build peer relationships.
Home Skills:
Household skills includes any basic skill that is part of day to day household life. This will include both kitchen skills and independent living skills. Daily lunch preparation will be a part of this program as will menu planning, grocery list preparation, and purchasing groceries. Additional kitchen and life skills are also included in the Home Skills program area. The goal will to be to assist our participants to be engaged and contributing to their home lives.
Community Skills:
Community skills will focus on basic skills needed for community and peer engagement. This includes social skills, creative expression, and community based independent living skills. Identifying, connecting with, and using community based resources is also a part of Community Skills programming. The goal will be to assist our participants to be connected to peers, interests, and their community.
Individual Skills:
Each day also includes a time specifically set to work on individual goals. This program area allows us to focus on meeting the unique needs and interests of each participant. At the same time, working on individual goals and needs increases the degree to which our participants and their families have a voice in what they want to learn and experience. The goal is to have a time each day where each participant has a chance to pursue his or her individual interests.

Program Area TWO: Social Network Program
The Social Network Program is aimed at meeting the needs of those with complex developmental needs. We accept those who face barriers to traditional programs including those who are non verbal and confined to a wheelchair. The program focuses on opportunity for socialization by building peer connections and community connections.
The program runs three half days per week and includes a variety of activities including music, dance (or adapted dance), games, recreation, and other activities. To help build community connection our Social Network Program runs out of different locations in our community.
Our Social Network Facilitator meets with each family to determine the participants’ interests and to learn what is important to and for each individual as they come into our program and move into community. The program itself is built on these individual interests.
