Beyond 21 is a support program for adults with developmental disabilities 21 years of age and older. We are a registered charity that provides services for families throughout SDG and Akwesasne.  Our vision is to enable adults with developmental disabilities to live connected, respected, and contributing to our community.  We accomplish this through providing hands-on opportunities to practice life learning. In preparation for our move to our new location, Beyond 21 is looking to hire a full time Recreation / Leisure Facilitator


Guided by person-centered thinking, the Recreation Facilitator focuses on providing meaningful experiences for adults with a developmental disability. Activities focus on building peer and community relationships, and acquiring skills to achieve active inclusion and involvement in the community. This position works closely with other facilitators to deliver programs that allow each individual to practice and gain experience with recreation /leisure skills that promote good health, relieve stress, facilitate social interaction, and encourage a general joy for living.  Activities include but are not limited to; sports, crafts, music, drama, games, and hobbies.   All Facilitators at Beyond 21 focus on activities that are relevant to community and home life while assisting participants to gain experience and practice skills that build increased connections with peers and community. The result is participants living their lives with increased success, friendships, supports, and independence. 


You should have a background in recreation therapy, creative arts, social services, mental health, education, or health care including a college diploma or university degree.  Qualifications and experience for this position include creativity, flexibility, problem-solving, organizing, communication skills, and the ability to form relationships with diverse individuals.  Most important, you must have a heart for the community and the people that we serve, as well as the desire to help them achieve their dreams. The successful candidate will be required to have a current Police Check, current First Aid / CPR training, and to have a reliable smoke free vehicle.  NVCI training and Bilingualism are assets.  The position is a full-time permanent position, Monday to Friday, however, some evening and weekend work will be required.
